You've Got To See It To Believe It

Ok, we were only kidding last year when we posted this, but apparently, dog crates are not just for dogs anymore!

Hampton has found himself a new hidey hole that he seems to love. He crawled in on his own, shut the door behind him, and played contently for the longest time. The fun had to end, though, when Tanner found him trying to put something in his mouth. Since there is no telling WHAT is in that crate (or how long it's been there), Hampton was promptly scooped up and the door was locked!

We must admit that we're a little sad to know that we won't be able to use this as punishment later, since he likes it too much! (just joking, Nachods!)

Wednesday

Double Trouble

We had too much fun watching Jack and Hampton play together this weekend. They were so funny....Jack is a ball of energy and cracks us up how he runs a circuit through their living room. Hampton, a new walker, was not about to be left behind, though, and eventually figured out Jack's running course and started copying him! Every time Hampton would fall down, Jack would come over and sit right beside him. At one point, they even seemed to be in deep conversation, babbling to each other for quite awhile! They were so cute together, and we know from watching Jack that he's going to be a great big brother soon. Now, all Hampton needs is a.......BIG brother, too! Haha! Since that can't happen, we'll settle for more fun with his older cousins!

Tuesday

It's Train-tastic!

This past weekend, we went to Birmingham for our nephew Jack's 2nd birthday. All the little boys we know love trains, but we think Jack is the biggest fan of all! So for his big day, it was trains all the way! John & Amy rented the cutest little train for all the kids to ride, and boy, did they have a blast! We can see that Hampton is starting to follow in his cousin's footsteps, since he loves to watch Chuggington and looks at anything involving a train with great interest. It's not surprising, then, that Hampton had a ball playing with the trains on Jack's train table and wasn't happy unless he was carrying at least one around with him everywhere! Luckily, Grandma & Grandpa were waiting on us to get home so they could give Hamp his very own riding train to fuel his new obsession!

Ready to play in our train outfit with Jack's Gigi

Bo & Hampton riding the rails

The cutest little train, complete with a hilarious conductor

A train of our very own that teaches the alphabet, too!

Friday Photo and Week in Review

This week went by in a blur! We made 2 trips to MS, hosted dinner for the grandparents, went to our first circle luncheon, had a COMPLETE meltdown in church Wednesday night, took advantage of Zaxby's repeat day, mourned the loss of our bedroom TV, watched a few new fall shows......just to name a few!

Tomorrow morning, we are headed to Birmingham for our nephew Jack's birthday party. We're looking forward to seeing everyone and getting away for a bit. We love a reason to celebrate, and since today is Amy's birthday, we'll have twice as many reasons to have fun!

Stuffed Animal Wars

Hampton loves playing with his stuffed animals, especially wrestling with his stuffed beaver.
In our popular Stuffed Animal Wars, the score is currently Hampton-1, Bucky the Beaver-0.

Wednesday

Happy Fall Y'all!

It's finally here! Fall is our favorite season because it brings so many great things with it. Here are some of the things that we've been looking forward to enjoying.....
  • crisp, fall weather
  • leaves changing
  • fall decorations
  • yummy fall foods like chili and apple cider
  • the smell of fall candles
  • visiting the pumpkin patch
  • the Shrimp Festival
  • watching way too much football
  • the great colors....browns, oranges, and reds
  • Halloween costumes
  • getting out our fall clothes
  • get-togethers with friends
  • Hampton's first birthday
  • visiting family for Thanksgiving
  • getting in the Christmas spirit early
We hope everyone enjoys the season and makes lots of great memories with family and friends!

Tuesday

Swing Time

We recently bought Hampton's Grandi & Granddaddy a swing to put in their backyard. Since Hampton loves being outside, and they have such a great fenced-in yard, we felt like this would be the perfect addition to the grown-up swing they already had. Granddaddy wasted no time putting it up, and Hamp's been loving it ever since!

Monday

Weekend Update

Last week was a tiring one, especially since Hampton was sick a good part of the week. We're not sure if it's tooth-related, sinus related (Tanner's fighting a bad sinus infection), or what, but he ran a low-grade fever and was out of sorts for a few days. He felt so bad Wednesday night that Bo ended up staying home with him while Tanner taught class at church.

Anyway, we needed to use every last minute this weekend getting several projects done that hadn't been tackled during the week. We started rounding up stuff for the neighborhood yard sale, we did a few craft projects, we ran errands, did yard work, and more. Saturday night, Bob & Randi came over to babysit while we went to our first Supper Club, which was really fun. Apparently, Hampton was exhausted, though, since we came home to find out that he had been asleep since 7pm....way earlier than usual! He didn't stir all night, and was back asleep Sunday morning at 8:30, which canceled our church plans. We felt like he needed the sleep, though, and we were NOT taking the chance of ruining a nap!

Baby Needs A New Pair Of Shoes

Now that Hampton is walking and cooler weather is right around the corner, we decided that it was time to get Hamp his first pair of shoes. We had already picked out the style that we liked, so we headed to the shoe store to see if they had them in his size.

We had the nicest sales associate who measured his foot and found us the very last pair in the store in the style we loved. Hampton was a champ and thought the shoes were very interesting. We could barely get him to stand up straight, because he kept bending over to look at the shoes! We were very thankful that he was not screaming like the other little boys in the store his age were.

Even though we're going to keep him barefoot at home, since that is what is recommended for walking development, now he has cute shoes to protect his feet when we go outside!

Wednesday

Curious Hampton

We have our hands full with Hampton and his endless curiosity! We spend most of our time chasing after him and taking stuff away from him! One day last week, he pulled out lots of stuff from the pantry while Tanner wasn't looking. The same day, he unrolled an entire roll of toilet paper and shredded it. Later, we found him opening the bathroom cabinets and crawling inside. No wonder we don't get tons of stuff done during the day!

Tuesday

10 Months

The fact that Hampton is 10 months old is blowing our minds! He's going to be 1 year old in October....what? He is the most fun right now, so much so that Tanner keeps saying she wants him to just stop and stay this way forever!
Current Likes:
waving "hi" and bye-bye"
watching his Little Leaps DVDs
dragging his Sesame Street counting book everywhere
banging on any surface he can find
Current Dislikes:
being limited in how many Gerber puffs he can eat
not being allowed to play in the dog's water bowl
having his diaper changed
when Mommy leaves the room
banging his head on the tile floor, which happens WAY too often!

Monday

Friday

Friday Photo and Week in Review

This week has been a wild one! With Labor Day making the week shorter, it meant that we had more stuff to cram into the days that were left.

Bo was busy running around dealing with roofers and customers. He even got to use one of our favorite phrases... "Keep Calm and Carry On"....on one particular stressed-out homeowner! Tanner was busy running errands and preparing for the first week of Wednesday night classes at church, where she has bravely volunteered to teach the 1st and 2nd Graders this year.

We did make time on Wednesday between picking up items for The Monogrammed Monkey and running to Publix for snacks for the church to squeeze in a fun lunch date at Dairy Queen with Bo, who just happened to be in Orange Beach, too! We decided that a French Silk Pie blizzard is about the best lunch you can have, and since it was so nice and breezy, we enjoyed it outside.

We have lots of honey-dos planned for the weekend, including some birthday projects. Plus, Bo has lots of football to watch, so we'll probably be busy all weekend, too! See you next week!

Thursday

And We're Walking!

With the help of his Leap Frog walker and lots of encouragement from us, Hampton has taken his first steps. He's up to about 10 steps on his own, walking from furniture to us excitedly. He loves that walker, too, but he can't quite steer it. That has led to some Nascar-worthy crashes, including flipping over the top of it. But we'll say one thing for Hampton--he gets right back up and tries again!

Wednesday

Hampton's Play Room

As we've mentioned before, we changed our guest bedroom into a playroom for Hampton. Let us just say that he's having a blast! We've hung cute new curtains, put up artwork, and rounded up every little boy toy we can find. Hampton and Tanner spend most of the day in there playing and pulling on the curtains (as seen below). The room stays dirty, but that's the best part.....we can shut the door and no one will know!

Tuesday

Hampton's Baptism

We chose to have Hampton's Baptism the same weekend of Bob's birthday just in case some of our far-flung relatives wanted to attend. Even though most of them had to go home early (it takes lots of hours in the car to get back to TN), we wanted them to know that they were invited.

The Baptism went great, and we were so thankful because you never know how a baby may react to having water poured on his head in front of a crowd! Luckily, our child is quite the social butterfly, and he loved being the center of attention. When our Pastor turned him around to see the congregation, Hampton held up a hand and waved to everyone! It was hilarious. He only whined when it was time to go back to Bo!

After the church service, we headed to brunch at Tacky Jack's, a great little waterfront restaurant with a wonderful breakfast menu. We should have planned ahead a little more for seating, but the staff was very nice and had us seated rather quickly. We had a great time with everyone, and Amy and Tanner got their workouts since both kids had a blast playing with Jack's trains and throwing them on the floor.....repeatedly.

It was a very special day for Hampton, and we have lots of photos for him to one day look back on!

Thursday

Bob's Birthday Bash

We recently celebrated Bob's 60th birthday and we made a whole weekend of it! Tanner's Grandparents, Uncles, cousin Ben, and brother John's family all came down for the weekend festivities. Paul and Jan were able to make it, too, so they added to the fun. Of course, with Hensons, it's all about the food, so we ate well at The Shrimp Basket and then at the birthday cookout. Our nephew Jack had a blast running around outside, and it didn't phase him one bit that it was very wet and rainy! We took lots of great pictures, including the one below. If that doesn't capture the spirit of Henson men, we don't know what does!

Wednesday

Vacation....Part Two

Part 2 of our vacation had us heading a few hours south of Orlando to Boca Raton to see Bo's parents. We always have fun there and this time was no exception. We visited with Susie and Andy, and even got to see Gigi for a bit. We went swimming, ate well, cruised A1A, and shopped until we dropped at Sawgrass (yes, we know we have a sickness). Hampton loved the attention and seeing Grandpa Andy's train setup, which are an obsession of every little boy we know! Hampton also loved all of his new toys....so many, in fact, that we had to buy a hitch-haul for our car to get them all back home!
